infinity
Friday, March 19th, 2010What is a ring? According to dictionary.com, a ring is a noun; a typically circular band of metal or other durable material, especially one of gold or other precious metal, often set with gems, for wearing on the finger as an ornament, a token of betrothal or marriage, etc.
I would say, a ring is a symbol of infinity; no beginning and no end. A ring embodies the vow made by a couple to share their lives for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death tears them apart.
I don’t know what came to me but I’m feeling too inspired today so I’m posting these rings that are close to my heart…
The ring on the left is not really mine. I’m showing a representation of the very first ring that Nono gave me, which looks almost the same, however in my ring, the flippers of the juxtaposed dolphins are touching; and attached to these is the beak of the dolphin opposite them.
It was November 2001, while we were waiting for Physics 201 class to start. He handed me a black paper bag full of gifts for xmas. I took out a scented gel candle, a wallet from Marithé François Girbaud, a bottle of Victoria’s Secret Garden “Secret Crush” (which he said the name of the scent tells it all…) and a small velvetty box tied with a red silk ribbon. Surprised as I was, he opened it with trembling hands and said, “Sana magustuhan mo..” Oh yeah, you bet I really liked it! It was a li’l big for my ring finger so I wore it on my left thumb.
This is a puzzle ring. Again, not my ring but this looks exactly the same that I have, which was a gift from my best friend, Michelle. Michelle gave me the ring, as a birthday gift, in 2002. She knew that I love puzzles and mysteries so she thought that it might be a good idea if she’d give me something that would definitely make my mind busy… and yes, I became busy hahaha! It took me a day to figure out how to solve this hehe! I even had a fight with my, then, bf because I had not been replying to his text messages… yeah you know what I was doing, right?!.. hehehehe!
OK, let me show you my most favorite ring that almost everybody that I knew had admired. Another ring my dearly beloved gave me. It was October 2002; semestral break. Long before, Mahal and I dated, I had a dream about someone giving me a silver ring with a black gem. I didn’t know what it meant until I totally had forgotten all about it…
It was a nice sunny morning. I was in my bedroom, relaxing, and watching tv when my mobile phone vibrated. Ah! A text message from Mahal, saying, “mahal kita tayo sa rm mayang 11am i love u”
I replied, “baket mahal?” Then he said, “basta…”
And so I hurried to the bathroom, took a shower, put on my clothes, and went off to our school campus.
“Pikit ka muna…” yes, he actually said that, good thing we were the only ones in that place at that time. I did what he said and when I opened my eyes, he was holding an opened ring box that gave me a vision of my dream about a silver ring with a black stone. I could not believe what my eyes were seeing. I knew I dreamt of it a long time ago but I had never told it to someone nor had I shared it to him. He said that the first time he caught his eyes on this ring, he didn’t have second thoughts in getting it for me. Silver and Onyx, perfect! Tears streamed down my face… Coincidence? Could be.. Destiny? Hmm..Pwede!
Nono and I were taking a stroll at SM Centerpoint when we run into this kikay/accessories shop that sells mood rings. The photo on the right shows us the meaning of every color… This would be the cheapest and coolest ring we’ve bought just for fun…
This ring came from my cousin dear, whom I consider as one of my best friends. This was a hand-me-down rhodium-plated Swarovski ring with sparkling gems on it. I love how they glitter like diamonds… simply beautiful.
I bought this ring in July of 2009. Wala lang, I like it’s clarity of expression. This ring set down on my right index finger.
These are my simple yet wonderful treasures.
